Too much red tape in our planning system?
Probably an easy question to answer and very much supports what we are hearing from so many of our clients and key contacts working in and around development some of whom feel it is in the worst shape it has been for the best part of 30 years.
Indeed, it is quite likely that increased red tape is responsible for the delay in building thousands of new homes each year. ‘Red tape’ has always been an issue and it would be difficult to eradicate this completely but it does seem that the hoops developers now need to jump through are overly burdensome.
Whether it be nutrient neutrality, water neutrality, biodiversity and habitats the requirements are never ending. Some would say this is a good thing to protect and preserve the environment in which we all live but is there a better balance to be struck?
