It is very difficult to generalise about how long it takes to administer an estate, since every estate is different. Generally, the whole process takes about a year, but it could be dealt with much quicker or it could take years, depending on the complexity of the estate. Tax, trusts, the nature and value of the assets and whether there is a business involved will all be factors in determining how long it takes. Much of it also depends on how quickly other people, organisations or companies respond to letters. The administration of the estate can be held up considerably through no fault of the Personal Representative or his solicitor.
