Annual Data Protection Update 2016

We are pleased to invite you to our Annual Data Protection Update. Data protection is becoming a much bigger risk for businesses of all shapes and sizes and continues to occupy news headlines month after month. Following Data Protection Day on 28 January; this seminar is your chance to put your questions to our expert lawyers in an informal setting and to gain better understanding of how your business can navigate the thorny issues presented by data protection law.

In this session we will:

  • Provide a recap of the basic principles of UK data protection law;
  • Review the developments with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation and provide guidance about when it will come into force and what it may mean for your business;
  • Analyse recent activity of the Information Commissioner’s Office regarding issuing monetary penalty notices for non-compliance; and
  • Discuss the significant European Court of Justice decision which resulted in the effective abolition of the Safe Harbour regime and discuss what businesses transferring personal data to the US can do to address these issues.
